Booz – It draws beachgoers and party revellers to Bali year-round but Indonesia might be about to lose its holiday appeal.

The island country is considering a radical new law that would see alcohol banned entirely.  Late into 2016, two Islamist parties introduced a bill to ban the sale, distribution and consumption of drinks with more than one per cent of alcohol.  Banning of alcohol… Is that really going to happen to Bali where tourism accounts for $12.84 billion in domestic capital.

 

How is this going to affect our trip to Bali?

Currently, there are no liquor laws that will be an impediment to our good times.  However, the prices for spirits and wines have sky-rocketed.  Sources say that rudimentary bottles of standard exports are sold at incredible mark-up on distribution prices as much as 300% higher.  In other words, in Bali you may expect to see your typical bottle of table wine sold for 4-5 times the price than you’re used to spending.

How does the surge in liquor pricing affect Perry + Sarita?

Well.. for starters, there won’t be any spirits, and wine provided at the wedding events hosted by Taman Ahimsa.  Perry + Sarita will be supplying loads of beer Bintang which is the most prominent cause of alcoholism on the island.  Perry + Sarita’s wedding planners are working on a solution to dampen the affects of the liquor crisis, atleast for our party on Oct 10.

We need to ask you all for a favour.

Basically. when the time comes we will ask you to bring forth a bottle of liquor or wine.  The type of bottle will be prescribed by Perry + Sarita.  Please help us by bringing liquor from your locale, or purchase at the duty free while transiting to Indonesia.  The duty free alcohol allowance into Bali is 1 litre of alcohol per adult.

The liquor you bring should be presented to our wedding staff when you arrive for the dinner reception on October 10.
